Realtors honor peers, install new officers, directors on board

Friday was a big night for Lisa Ramler.

The nine-year veteran of the real estate business was inducted as the new president of the Lawrence Board of Realtors at that organization’s annual Installation Mixer Friday night at Maceli’s — and that was before she got recognized as Realtor of the Year.

Front row from left are Deborah McMullen, past president; Lisa Ramler, president; and Rob Hulse, president-elect.

“It’s a little overwhelming,” she said. “It’s a real honor.”

The Realtor of the Year award is given to the member of the Lawrence Board of Realtors who is judged by his or her peers to have the cleanest transaction record.

As the new president of the organization, Ramler will be responsible for scheduling meetings and servings as the organization’s spokeswoman.

The organization also named its Salesperson of the Year and Distinguished Service awards.

Charles Gruber, an employee of Hedges Real Estate Realty Executives, said in his acceptance speech for the Salesperson of the Year award that he considered his fellow Lawrence Realtors part of his family.

“Realty is more fun than it should be, and then to get recognized on top of that is like whip cream on top of the cake,” Gruber said.

To qualify for the award, Gruber had to be among the top 25 percent in sales at his firm. Gruber, who turns 60 this year, said he planned to stay in the business until he is 75, adding 15 more years to the 18 he has already served in the industry.

Stephens Real Estate employee Mary Lou Roberts was given the Distinguished Service Award.

Before the awards were presented, the new officers and directors of the Lawrence Board of Realtors were installed. In addition to Ramler, they included: Rob Hulse, president-elect; Mark Hess, secretary; Justin Cordova, treasurer; Cheryl Baldwin, director; Thomas Howe, director; Steve LaRue, director; Larry Northrop, director; Alan Miller, director; Sonya Maness-Turner, director; and Deborah McMullen, past president.

About 250 people attended the event.
