Lawrence residents, KU workers make cut

Sixteen Lawrence residents or Kansas University employees have been named members of five of six “hot teams” designated to help develop a roadmap for the state’s bioscience initiative.

  • Advanced Materials and Medical Devices: Rick Hale, associate professor of aerospace engineering, KU; David Johnson, vice president for engineering and research, Pinnacle Technology; Elizabeth Friis, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, KU; and Jim Baxendale, executive director of technology transfer and intellectual property, KU.
  • Biomass, Biofuels, Biomaterials and other Environmental Applications: Donna Johnson, president, Pinnacle Technology.
  • Drug Discovery, Drug Delivery and Pharmacogenomics: Charles Decedue, executive director of KU’s Higuchi Biosciences Center; Ken Audus, dean of KU’s School of Pharmacy; Kendra Holtzman, program assistant at Higuchi Biosciences Center; Matt McClory, chief executive, Lawrence Regional Technology Center; Gunda Georg, KU professor of medicinal chemistry, KU; and Lester Mitscher, professor of medicinal chemistry, KU.
  • Plant Sciences: Tom Taylor, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, KU.
  • Health-Related Information Technology, Bioinformatics and Telemedicine: Tim Johnson, executive director of KU’s Information and Telecommunication Technology Center; Nancy Hanson, program assistant, ITTC; Gerald Lushington, director of medicinal chemistry laboratories, KU; and Leonard Krishtalka, director of KU’s Natural History Museum.
  • Animal Sciences: No members from Lawrence.
