United Way raises $1.5 million

United Way of Douglas County has reached a new milestone — the organization announced today it has raised $1.5 million in its fall fund-raising campaign.

That amount is 6 percent more than the total from a year earlier. The money, which is the most ever raised by the county’s United Way organization, will go to aid 27 local affiliate agencies.

Todd and Caprice Thompson, of Lawrence, served as co-chairs for the record-setting campaign.
