Free State High’s boys basketball team has climbed into the top spot in this week’s Kansas Basketball Coaches Assn. rankings.

The Firebirds (7-1) vaulted to No. 1 after trouncing previous poll leader Olathe South, 71-52, last week. O-South dropped to No. 3 in this week’s rankings. Wichita East is No. 2.

Free State’s next game will be Thursday in the first-round of the Topeka Invitational Tournament against Topeka High. Tipoff will be 3:15 p.m. at Highland Park High.
