‘Progressive’ move

To the editor:

Conservatives like me are celebrating President Bush’s re-election victory as well as the sweeping gains made by U.S. House and Senate Republicans, but we will do well to temper our glee with a measure of austerity. Progressives and other liberals may still be in disarray at the national level from their recent losses at the polls, but in Lawrence and Douglas County, they are behind the wheel of a smooth-running machine. And they don’t intend to stop.

United in their disdain for the liberation of Iraq and their hatred for President Bush, liberals have coalesced under the self-aggrandized Progressive Lawrence Campaign, a front organization for liberal Democrats, Green Party members, Socialist sympathizers, and members of the secular and religious far left.

If left unchallenged, liberal progressives will continue to hurt our community. Just look at how their ideology has compelled them: stonewall progress on the South Lawrence Trafficway, propagate a costly “living wage” scam on job providers, seek to completely redefine marriage, raise your taxes in order to grow government, hamstring businesses seeking to locate here, and peddle some sort of “smart growth” nonsense.

The Progressive Lawrence Campaign clearly does not represent Kansas values. In fact they provide an incubator for radical ideas that you and I should fear. But worst of all, behind closed doors, they are hatching schemes to control all five seats on the Lawrence City Council through victories in this April’s election. What are you and I going to do to stop them?

Eric Haar,
