Governor mentions KU Rhodes scholar

Kansas University’s latest Rhodes scholar was honored during Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ State of the State address Monday.

Ruth Anne French was one of 32 Americans chosen to study next year at Oxford University in England. She plans to study environmental policy regulation.

“Kansas students do, by and large, go to good schools with caring, effective teachers,” Sebelius said. “Indeed, our best students compete with the very best in the nation.”

French, who attended Monday’s address, is a senior majoring in political science. She is from Partridge and graduated from Haven High School. She plans to leave for Oxford in October.

“Congratulations, Ruth Anne,” Sebelius said, “and come see me about a job when you return.”
