Group seeks nominees for volunteer award

Nominations are being accepted by the United Way of Douglas County Board of Directors for the 2004 Wallace Galluzzi Volunteer of the Year Awards.

The awards recognize outstanding volunteers who serve nonprofit organizations in the county. The awards are given in two categories: youth and adult volunteers. Nominations are due by Jan. 17 at the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, 2518 Ridge Court. Forms can be obtained by calling the center at 865-5030.

Nominees will be recognized at the United Way of Douglas County’s annual meeting Feb. 24.

The award was founded in 1985 and is named after the late Galluzzi, who was an active community leader serving several terms on the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and United Way board of directors. He also was president of Haskell Indian Nations University from 1968 to 1981.
