Reaching out

To the editor:

I cannot be the only one who thinks that President George W. Bush should have come on national TV on Sunday evening, the day after Christmas, to ask each and every one of us to donate whatever money we can afford to the victims of the tsunami.

He could have shown the world that we as a nation are united in our willingness to help however we can. Instead he was slow to even acknowledge the extent of the catastrophe.

At every turn, President Bush seems ignorant of the world’s problems. He is not widely traveled, so how can he even imagine the destruction in places he has never seen?

So I am asking that each and every one of us give what we can. In doing so, we can demonstrate to the world that Americans do care about peoples in other parts of the world.

We have so much. It is only right that we do this. If only our president could have asked.
