Good deeds

To the editor:

Have you heard of 100 Good Women? They are truly good women (and some good men) who are committed to good deeds. In writing this, it’s my hope that readers who know a “Good Woman” will thank her for what she means to our community.

I first learned of this group when a friend suggested I coordinate a program with them. Through their support, a program where women who are HIV-positive can share their stories was conducted for World AIDS Day. My next encounter with this group was when a Douglas County AIDS Project client was moving into an apartment after being homeless. He literally had nothing. A phone call started the 100 Good Women telegraph, and a weekend later, this man had a completely furnished and stocked home, thanks mainly to 100 Good Women.

100 Good Women don’t ask for details, they don’t have to have a meeting and vote on every little detail of helping someone. They just pass the word that help is needed, and whomever can, does, no strings attached. Simple as that.

Thank you, 100 Good Women, for all you do for this community, and for being shining examples of kindness and benevolence. Your efforts not only help others, but they remind people that we are all capable of good deeds. Hopefully, your example will give others courage to reach out.

Geri Summers,

Lawrence
