County to offer information on road project
Ron Griffin said he would like to see traffic along County Road 1055 decrease.
But after living near the road for about 20 years, he knows what he would like to see won’t happen.
“It’s the main corridor between Lawrence and Baldwin,” said Griffin, who lives at 997 East 1600 Road. “We’ve seen it grow, and I guess there’s going to be some changes because of that.”
Griffin plans to attend the Douglas County Commission meeting tonight at Vinland Elementary School, 702 East 1747 Road, to find out more about an upcoming project along County Road 1055 and potential projects on the stretch of road in the future. The county invited about 35 property owners with land along or near County Road 1055.
Douglas County Public Works Director Keith Browning said that during the meeting he would discuss plans to replace a bridge about three-quarters of a mile south of County Road 458 and improve curves in the road just south of the bridge.
Bid letting for the project is scheduled for January 2006, Browning said.
Griffin said he agreed that the 56-year-old bridge needed to be repaired, but he said he didn’t have a problem with the curves in the road.
“I’m not going to be upset about it until I see what it looks like,” he said.
The commissioners will meet at 6:35 p.m. in the gym at the Vinland school.
