Police investigate burglaries near KU

Lawrence Police are investigating a series of burglaries at apartments near Kansas University.

In two of the burglaries — in the 1300 block of Kentucky and Vermont streets — the burglar apparently entered through a balcony before stealing thousands of dollars worth of property.

The theft on Kentucky Street was discovered about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, when a group of KU students came home to their apartment. Items missing included a laptop computer, jewelry, compact discs and pillowcases apparently used to carry the stolen items.

The theft on Vermont Street happened between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday. Items stolen included two Apple iPods and a digital camera.

A third burglary in the area happened about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, when a woman in the 1400 block of Tennessee Street awoke on the couch and found a man inside her bedroom.

She yelled at him, and he climbed out the window, she told police. She later found her purse and cell phone missing.

She described him as a white male about 5’10” wearing a polo shirt and jeans.
