Cloudy skies bring gray start to holiday

It was a dark and dreary start to the Presidents Day holiday this morning, with cloudy, dark skies and sub-freezing wind chills.

“The clouds are thick here in the morning hours,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “Hopefully by this afternoon, we’ll see a little bit of sun.”

Despite all the clouds, Lawrence should stay dry today, Schack said. She said the rainfall moving in from the west will skirt to the north of the Lawrence area.

This morning’s temperature at 8 a.m. was 34, wtih a northerly 7-mph wind making the wind chill 27.

Todays’ high will climb to 46, under mostly cloudy skies.

Overnight, the low will drop to 30 by early Tuesday morning. Tuesday’s high will be 46 under mostly cloudy skies, with showers to the west.

“I don’t think we see any precipitation in northeastern Kansas,” Schack said.

Wednesday’s temperature will start out with a low of 26 in the morning, climbing to a high of 42 by Wednesday afternoon, under partly cloudy skies, she said.
