Bond opportunity
To the editor:
The upcoming bond issue is another great opportunity for Lawrence. These funds will help the district bring equity of resources to all the junior high and high schools. And by investing bond money into these much-needed upgrades, the district will be able to spend annual capital outlay dollars on the desperately needed elementary facility upgrades.
No time is better than now. If we as a community obtain these bonds now it will help keep the constantly rising costs of construction down. This just means we’ll get more for our money now than if we wait. So come on Lawrence, let’s not wait any more.
South Junior High needs to be replaced, and we have got to get rid of the portables! They are not providing a good or healthy learning environment, and they’re everywhere! Talk about an equity issue! Lawrence High needs these upgrades to keep it as the great school that it is.
As I understand it, the second bond is for technology improvements districtwide. I don’t know how many of you have traveled around from school to school, but the difference in technology from one to another can be tremendous. This technology gap between schools in our own district needs to be closed! It will also bring the technology in Lawrence schools up to the same level at most of the other districts around us.
Kevin Kennedy,
Lawrence
