To the editor:

The cast and crew of “The Laramie Project” at Lawrence High School presented a very moving production of Moises Kaufman’s play. The entire evening felt special. The community of Lawrence turned out in large numbers to support the students. I believe many of those in attendance felt, as I did, that the positive energy and focused attention we all brought to this eloquent work was its own protest against the hateful crowd picketing outside.

Aesthetic education, demonstrated so beautifully by director Kim O’Brien and her dedicated students, provides us with opportunities to think and feel. These students learned how to express strong emotion through their craft. Those fortunate enough to be in the audience had our spirits lifted and our hearts made full. Thank you.
