Sunny skies bring mild end to work week

Enjoy today’s sunshine, clear skies and mild weather, because clouds — and the chance of precipitation — are headed this way for the weekend.

“We have plenty of sunshine in the forecast,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “There’s not a cloud to be found this morning.”

At 8:30 a.m., the temperature was 27, with a north-northeast 6-mph wind making the wind chill 20.

By noon, temperatures will be in the mid 40s, reaching a high of 49 late this afternoon, Schack said. Winds will be 5-10 mph from the northeast switching to the southeast this evening.

“It’s not until late this afternoon that we start to bring in some high clouds,” she said.

Lawrence might see some sleet/rain mix tonight after midnight, which can cause a few slippery spots on roads and bridges, she said. The overnight low will drop to 31 by early Saturday morning.

Cloudy skies are expected Saturday, with periods of rain expected throughout the day on Saturday. Saturday’s high will be 45.

The chance for rain continues into Sunday morning, with Sunday’s morning low starting at 43 and the high reaching 54 by Sunday afternoon.
