To the editor:

There have been several recent letters criticizing the T. We would like to offer a different perspective.

We purchased a home and moved to Lawrence last summer. A major factor in our choice of Lawrence was the availability of good public transportation. It is very appealing to be able to go down to Massachusetts Street for shopping or dinner without parking hassles. We intend to take the T to the Farmers Market next season, as well. It is great to take the T to the auto repair shop to pick up one of our vehicles or to run necessary errands. Since one of us is visually disabled and cannot drive, the T is a necessary source of transportation and independence.

On our recent trips, the buses have held many people going to and from work, students going to and from school, visitors to Lawrence and shoppers. We believe that riding the T is environmentally responsible, just as we believe in recycling. As gasoline prices continue to soar, we hope that more people will realize what a wonderful service the T provides. Thank you, Lawrence!
