Sunny skies starting the melting process

The wind chill was in the single digits this morning, but a bright sunny day will help start melting off the 3-inch snowfall Lawrence received earlier this week.

“Make sure you grab your sunglasses,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “Sunshine is ruling our forecast today and that’s going to start the melting.”

At 8:30 a.m., the temperature was 17, with a northwesterly 7-mph wind making the wind chill 8 degrees.

Today’s high will climb to 38, with some high thin clouds arriving in the late afternoon. The average high for this date is 44 and the average low is 24.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 20 by early Friday morning. Friday’s high will be 49 under mostly clear skies.

“Enjoy the snow while you can,” Schack said. Most of the snow should be gone by Friday afternoon, she said.

Saturday’s morning low will start out at 32, with the temperature climbing to a high of 49 under mostly cloudy skies. There is a chance for rain on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
