Price too high

To the editor:

I begin with, how can a fire station cost $4 million-plus, and why do all Douglas County residents have to pay for it, when it is located in Lawrence?

I would think a building to hold a few trucks and have some nice sleeping quarters to house the brave guys who save lives in Lawrence could be built for less than $2 million very easily.

I also would like to know why this was not resubmitted for rebidding to cut costs in a weak economy?

Seems our elected officials don’t have a problem wasting our tax dollars foolishly. The money wasted would buy another ladder truck and still leave some change for a new ambulance easily.

Seems time has come for our leaders to do some explaining and face the taxpayers.

Yes, the fire and medical crews need a nice place, but a Trump Plaza building? I think not.
