Open house planned for LMH Breast Center

Lawrence Memorial Hospital officials will provide tours of the hospital’s new Breast Center at an open house Tuesday.

The 1,800-square-foot facility near the hospital’s east entrance officially opened about a month ago, said hospital spokeswoman Janice Early-Weas.

The open house, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., will provide information on how the $400,000 center can help coordinate breast cancer treatment and promote early detection of the illness.

A short program will begin at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. The hospital also is offering a “sneak peek” of the facility to all breast cancer survivors from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. today.

City Hall

Task force to review homeless suggestions

The city’s Task Force on Homeless Services will decide at a meeting today whether to change its draft plan for improving homeless services.

The task force will meet at 1 p.m. at City Hall to decide whether to include in the plan recommendations it received from the public during a series of public forums last month.

The list of recommendations the task force will consider is long and includes proposals that would require homeless individuals to show an identification/service card before receiving certain homeless services, such as food and shelter.
