Couple escape house fire

A 65-year-old Easton man and his wife managed to escape a fire at their house early Wednesday morning, but fire officials called the structure a total loss.

According to a report from the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office, John E. Adams and his wife awoke in their house at 23878 Mount Olivet Road, Easton, after smelling something burning. The couple fled the house and called 911. Fire crews from Easton and Kickapoo townships responded to the call, but were not able to quell the fire before it irreparably damaged the house.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, but foul play was not suspected
