11 guns reported stolen in burglary

A Lawrence man lost 11 guns, hundreds of dollars in cash and thousands of dollars worth of jewelry in a weekend burglary of his home, police said Wednesday.

The home in the 1500 block of Harper is near the Brook Creek Neighborhood, where a dozen home and auto burglaries have been reported in recent weeks.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Dan Ward said the owner, a 41-year-old man, apparently left a sliding-glass door unlocked between Friday night and Monday morning.

Thieves took seven shotguns, two rifles and two handguns, as well as $638 in cash and $7,000 in jewelry, Ward said.

Losses, police said, totaled more than $23,000.
