Marital standards
To the editor:
Kale Woods’ letter to the editor (Jan. 27) puzzled me: Woods argues that “every institution has requirements for entry” and that homosexuals do not meet the requirements for marriage. Woods further likens granting same-sex marriage to granting unearned master’s degrees and having uncertified teachers educating our children. But I’m unclear as to what the “requirements” are for marriage these days. Isn’t it just biology? If two adults show up at the courthouse with one vagina and one penis between them, they can get married — no classes to be passed, no proficiency to be demonstrated. Those requirements don’t seem very steep to me.
