FSHS boys basketball still ranked No. 1

Free State High remained the No. 1-ranked boys team in the state for the third week in a row, and Lawrence High debuted at No. 8 in this week’s Class 6A Kansas Basketball Coaches Assn. poll.

The Firebirds boosted their record to 11-1 with a 73-47 throttling of Topeka High on Saturday night. The Lions climbed to 8-4 with an 81-40 pasting of Kansas City Christian, a Class 3A school, Friday night.

Free State and Lawrence High will tangle Saturday night in the FSHS gym. First, however, the two city schools have Friday night dates. The Firebirds will be home against Shawnee Mission North while the Lions will travel to SM South.

In this week’s girls KBCA poll, Ottawa climbed from No. 8 to No. 5 in Class 5A and Baldwin and Tonganoxie are rating No. 9 and No. 10 respectively in Class 4A.
