Lawrence students to perform with band

Merry Chadwick and Annie Kettle, sophomores from Lawrence, will perform with the St. Olaf Band during the ensemble’s 2005 winter tour.

The 90-member collegiate concert band will tour nine cities in the Midwest. It will present a 7:30 p.m. concert Feb. 8 at Skoglund Center Auditorium at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

Chadwick majors in music and interdisciplinary fine arts. She plays the oboe. Kettle majors in music education. She plays with the horn section.

Magic School Bus Live! to present shows at Lied

Scholastic’s The Magic School Bus Live!, based on the award-winning TV series and the best-selling book series, will present “The Traveling Sound Show” and “Recycling” on Feb. 12 at the Lied Center. Showtimes are 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

A science workshop on sound waves and recycling will be in the second floor lobby of the Lied Center between performances for children ages 4 to 10. The workshop will feature interactive games and demonstrations by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the City of Lawrence Waste Reduction and Recycling Division, and the music and physics departments at KU. Hands-on activities will give children an opportunity to practice the ideas presented onstage.

Tickets are $18. They are available at the Lied Center, University Theatre and the SUA Office.
