If you see a giant Hummer barreling around Lawrence, pumping up anything from numbers-crunching assistance to cell phone donation programs, don’t be alarmed.

It’s just a rolling signal that a new business – Liberty Tax Service – is in town.

Dustin Brown (above left, with Angie Perry) and Andrew Merchant plan to open their franchise location Monday at 810 W. 23rd St. The place will have about 20 employees, whose responsibilities will range from doing peoples’ taxes to compiling innovative marketing programs to standing around like a statue.

“Hopefully every single second that we’re open we’ll have somebody outside, waving, in a Lady Liberty or Uncle Sam costume,” Brown said. “Hopefully they’ll connect with every single car that goes by.”

Also Monday, Liberty Tax will begin offering free, weeklong classes in basic income tax preparation. For more information, call 856-5421.
