Final count doesn’t alter Sunday sales election

? The count changed, but the outcome didn’t.

Douglas County commissioners Tuesday affirmed that last week’s special election in Baldwin approved Sunday sales of alcohol inside the city limits.

Commissioners ruled that three provisional challenge ballots could be counted. Two of the ballots involved address changes on the part of those casting the ballots and the third involved an individual’s name change.

The final and official count for the election was 200 “no” votes and 181 “yes” votes. A “no” vote meant approval because the question was whether to prohibit Sunday sales of alcohol in Baldwin.

Commissioners Bob Johnson and Jere McElhaney and County Treasurer Paula Gilchrist canvassed the ballots.
