Research library preserves Chamberlain items

Much of Aram Goudsouzian’s research on Wilt Chamberlain’s years in Lawrence was conducted at Kansas University’s Spencer Research Library.

“I spent a week there last December,” Goudsouzian said. “They were extremely helpful to me. They were great.”

Much of the library’s Chamberlain collection, said librarian Bill Crowe, was donated by people who knew the basketball star.

“If anyone has any (Chamberlain) items they think ought to be preserved, we’d love to hear from them,” Crowe said. “(Donating) is a great way to contribute to history.”

The library’s holdings – including the Chamberlain files – are not restricted to KU personnel or to university-level research.

“We are a library that’s very much open to the public,” Crowe said. Library hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m., Sundays, closed.

Copies of the Kansas State Historical Society’s magazine, “Kansas History,” which includes Goudsouzian’s article, will be available Tuesday at The Raven Bookstore, 6 E. Seventh St. It may be ordered through the society’s Web site: www.kshs.org.
