Immediate volunteer needs

¢ The Salvation Army seeks volunteers to ring bells at various locations during the holiday season. Volunteer bell ringers assist the Salvation Army by collecting donations to benefit economically disadvantaged and homeless community members. To register to volunteer, please contact the Salvation Army at 843-4188.

¢ The Safe Winter Walkways Program seeks volunteers to shovel snow on behalf of elderly and disabled community members. The program serves community members who are unable to shovel their sidewalks by matching them with a volunteer who agrees to shovel after each significant snowfall this winter. The goal of the program is to match volunteers with residents in close proximity to their homes. Matches are currently being made, but more volunteers are needed. For more information or to apply, visit the City of Lawrence Web site at www.ci.lawrence.ks.us or call the Safe Winter Walkways hotline 785-832-3338.

¢ Douglas County Senior Meals needs several drivers to deliver meals to Douglas County senior citizens who are homebound. Meal delivery takes place Monday through Friday, and volunteers are asked to commit to one delivery route each week, which generally takes one hour or less. To learn more or sign up to help, please contact Mary Feltz or Kim Wittman at 842-0543.
