Shooter gets 10 years

A judge Thursday sentenced a Lawrence man to roughly a decade in prison for a December 2004 shooting at an apartment complex in northern Lawrence.

Judge Michael Malone sentenced Randy J. Johnson, 20, to 122 months in prison for four counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Johnson was convicted at trial earlier this year of firing at a group of residents Dec. 21, 2004, from the parking lot of Boardwalk Apartments, 524 Frontier Road.

The shooting followed a noise dispute in the complex.

Johnson said he didn’t remember the shooting because he was intoxicated.

Malone called the shooting “tragic and mind-boggling.”
