Police say they foiled attempted robbery

Thanks to a tip, a planned robbery of a Eudora convenience store was foiled Wednesday night, Lawrence police reported Thursday.

Police said Lawrence detectives and Eudora police arrested two Lawrence people on conspiracy to commit robbery at Casey’s at 10th and Church streets in Eudora.

Lawrence police said they received a tip about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, and detectives began investigating and set up surveillance.

Detectives made the arrest at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday after they saw the two people approaching Casey’s, police said.

Prosecutors on Thursday charged 28-year-old Shannon W. Fields and 35-year-old Tamette M. Pennington with conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated robbery.

Both listed the Salvation Army Shelter, 946 N.H., as their address.

District Court Judge Pro Tem Peggy Kittel set Fields’ bond at $10,000 and Pennington’s bond at $7,500.

Assistant Dist. Atty. Brenda Clary said the two had “gloves, ski masks and a mock weapon.”
