Youth organization closing doors today

A Douglas County organization that gathered resources, information and programs for area children is closing its doors after eight years.

The Partnership for Children and Youth, Inc. will hold a farewell reception at 5:30 p.m. today at the United Way Center for Human Services, 2518 Ridge Court, to thank its supporters and hand out cash awards to partner programs.

The organization, founded in 1997, has brought more $1.2 million in grant money to local youth programs, organizers said. It also founded the annual Douglas County Report Card, grading the well-being of area children.

The group said lack of funding forced them to dissolve the partnership, handing off projects to other area businesses and charities.
