Neighborhood opposes commerical bid

Lawrence City Commission agenda highlights ¢ 6:35 p.m. Tuesday ¢ City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets ¢ Sunflower Broadband Channel 25 ¢ Meeting documents online at www.lawrenceks.org

Bottom line

City commissioners will consider rezoning the northeast corner of East 13th Street and Haskell Avenue from RO-2 Residential-Office to C-1 Inner Neighborhood Commercial.

Background

Beauty shop operator Janine Colter is seeking to locate in the small corner building and needs the property to be rezoned. But the Brook Creek Neighborhood Assn. has opposed the request. Brook Creek leaders have said they do not want commercial uses to begin creeping into the neighborhood. Area residents have filed a valid protest petition, which means that the five-member city commission will have to approve the rezoning with at least four votes.
