Kasold construction topic of meeting today

Area residents will have a chance today to learn more specifics about plans to rebuild the northern portions of Kasold Drive.

City engineers will be hosts of an informational fair from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 3312 Calvin Drive.

The $2.5 million project will include widening the stretch of Kasold Drive from Peterson Road to the Kansas Turnpike Bridge and adding roundabouts and turning lanes.

Chuck Soules, the city’s director of public works, said the road will feature one 12-foot lane in each direction but also will include eight-foot shoulders. The project will feature a grass median along much of the route, roundabouts at Tillerman Drive and Grand Vista Drive, and left-turn lanes at other intersections along the road.

The event also will provide information on a separate state project to rebuild the Kasold Drive bridge over the Kansas Turnpike. That project will start in the spring. The city project is expected to begin late next year. Both projects will have an impact on traffic flow through the area.
