KDHE issues boil advisory for Pomona

State officials have advised residents of Pomona in Franklin County to boil their water before using it because of a line break that caused low pressure in the system.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued the boil advisory for 952 residential customers who use the Pomona system. About 100,000 gallons of water were lost after the water line broke.

The advisory will remain in effect until tested water samples show no evidence of contamination.

According to officials, water should be boiled for one minute before being used for drinking or food preparation. Residents should dispose of ice cubes and not use ice from an automatic ice maker.

To disinfect dishes or other surfaces that may touch food, soak them in clean tap water that includes one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.

Bath water does not need to be boiled, though children should be supervised and kept from ingesting the water.
