FDR compassion
To the editor:
It is troubling to hear President Bush continue down the road of extending the tax cuts.
His plan to shrink the deficit cannot rely on cuts to programs for the less-fortunate. It is immoral to give tax breaks to the wealthy while cutting vital food stamp programs to the poor.
I am reminded of a quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt as we approach the holiday season:
“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”
Sounds like something the Christ might have said.
