Lawrence man indicted on handgun charge

A federal grand jury indicted a Lawrence man on Wednesday on the charge of illegally possessing a handgun after being convicted of a felony for possession of cocaine.

Prosecutors allege that Justyn N’gai Wooten, 23, illegally possessed a gun on Feb. 11 in Lawrence, according to a statement from U.S. Atty. Eric Melgren’s office.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case, and if convicted, the suspect faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
