Pipe bomb found undetonated in lake

Sheriff’s deputies were called to Douglas County State Lake about 4 p.m. Wednesday after someone saw a footlong pipe bomb floating on a piece of driftwood.

The device was about 2 inches in diameter with fuses coming out each end, a Douglas County Sheriff’s spokeswoman said. The fuse appeared to have been lit at some point, but the device hadn’t been detonated.

A bomb squad from Olathe was called in to destroy it.
