Texas speech

To the editor:

There has been some discussion in recent letters regarding Cindy Sheehan's attitude toward America. Two weeks ago, my wife and I participated in a rally supporting Cindy at Camp Casey, near Crawford, Texas. Speaking of her feelings since her son was killed in Iraq 16 months before, here is what she said on that subject, word for word, as I videotaped it:

"I thought I was cursed. I thought America was cursed. But I am so blessed, and America is so blessed. And I can finally say, after 16 months, God bless America, because we are. We're gonna win. I have no doubt, no doubt in my mind that our troops will be coming home soon, and what we're doing in Crawford, Texas, is gonna same lives, American and Iraqi."

At the conclusion of the rally, at Cindy's request, we all sang "God Bless America."

Allan Hanson,

Lawrence

Wow, the Kaw Valley Small Business Monthly! What a truly reputable source. Great journalism there guy. Did you even take the time to see who the editor of this garbage is? It's a right winger named Kevin Groenhagen, who got his ass handed to him in a 1996 Kansas house campaign by a Democrat 7200-50. No wonder he's bitter.

  3. Carmenilla (anonymous) says…

Armenius IS Groenhagen.....That is just too funny to me. The man is using HIS own publication to substantiate his point of view. Its like talking about yourself in the third person. Amazing!

Blame it on Bill, Kevin. Its that darn rascal, Slick Willy!

    You crack me up!

Well K "A" G, If this matter of Iraq is worth dying for it seems you would have been one of the first to re-enlist yet you are still here.

Whether or not the protestors are professional is irrelevant. That "professional protestor" is a neocon term in an effort to some how smear the protestors. People who do not agree with government activities protest...that's part of the deal.

People who believe in starting wars with countries who did not attack us are "professional" war mongers. People who traveled to support Bush are professional Bush supporters.

There are millions upon millions upon millions around the world who do not see war as the answer to much of anything. It is the governments of the world who use war. If the citizens of the world had their way there would be no war

There is no one on any chatboard who knows Cindy's son better than the mother. Please keep that in mind.

Staying the course and enduring further casualties while the insurgency grows stronger is an insane policy. If we persist on that front we will end up strengthening the hand of Islamic extremists and their role within the Iraqi insurgency.

Our choice is simple--either we invest in the military resources and personnel required to defeat the Sunni insurgents and allow the Shia and Kurds to consolidate power or we withdraw and let the Shia, Sunni, and Kurds find their own solution. We cannot ask our soldiers and Marines to give their lives and sacrifice their bodies for a new Islamic state. It is true that our withdrawal will create a major vacuum and damage our prestige. But the alternative, i.e., that we stay and try to train up sufficient Iraqi forces and help the fledgling Islamic Government get on its feet, will leave us the favorite target of insurgents and terrorists. And after we have shed the blood of our sons and daughters in trying to create a new government that will be controlled by Islamists, those Islamists will ultimately insist that we leave Iraq and no longer meddle in their affairs.

Rosy scenario does not live in Iraq. Until we come to grips with this truth American soldiers will continue to be killed and maimed for no good reason.

I posted this in an unrelated discussion albeit, I think it applies here as well.

"I do not dislike Bush just because I am opposed to the war, I dislike him because he's hurt civil rights, he's currently running the largest government in our history (I might be somewhat 'liberal' though I also have many libertarian views), his bombastic foreign policy is making an enemy of us to the world, he's done nothing to significantly help the economy or assure me that my children will have a secure economic future, he continues to support a futile and expensive war on drugs (with the war on terror and Iraq taboot), he speaks of freedom yet supports FCC censorship to make sure I don't hurt myself hearing any naughty language or God forbid - seeing a womans breast (gast!), he continues to deny the growing evidence of global warming, and he's an arrogant, Christianist, lame duck, never could find a company he couldn't run into the ground, lying, manipulative, divisive, rhetorical, repetitive, redundant, appealing to the masses, fact manufacturing, holier than thou, in denial, too late to admit his mistakes cuz he'd look more like a fool than he already does, "supposedly talks to God", self-accualized protector of the world son of bitch that's ever sat his worthless ass in the oval office.

I don't say the U.S. government is "bad" any more than any freakin's government is bad and corrupt. To sit their and continually defend this corruption and inhumane disregard for the very 'right to life' (freedom through tolerable levels of collateral damage) jerks like Bush beat to death in their rhetorical, redundant ramblings, is of the highest immorality. To say 'Oh I'm a clever fella, hey there! one anit-american protester defends another, I'm such a great 'stater of the f****n obvious,' must be quite self fullfilling, but clearly quite freakin retarded even thought I'm obviously not referring to anyone in particluar here. Disgusting, and shame, shame on all who support this death in support of this "freedom" as it is called. No one who's died in Iraq has died thinking of the "freedom" (who's?) they've been forced to fight for. They die thinking of their mothers, wives, etc. Sad, sad sad. Governments, including ours (these days) DO NOT fight wars for freedom. Rebels do that. We fight to maintain the status quo. Vietnam was supposedly a war for our freedom, and no sensible person now believes that. History will judge Bush and this war the same. To quote Romeo and Juliet, to the controlling powers in this country: "A plague on both your houses!"

She may have said those words but she didn't mean them or she would be home grieving quietly with her family instead of spitting on her sons memory by parading her grief on all the media outlets to anyone that will listen (as long as they are liberals) Her son left her, her husband left her and utimately her liberal sicophants will leave her and then she will find herself totally alone with her misplaced anger, her misplaced hatred, the memories of her so called friends in Crawford and her agonizing grief. That is her destiny!

It does not logically or argumentatively follow that if one person believes in a cause regardless of his/her ability to participate, then all people should do the same. "Beginning to see how inane your argument is?" Try brushing up on the rules of logic yourself fella. Just because one believes we need to end our reliance on fossil fuels does not mean they should stop driving a car. I myself believe alternative, enviro-friendly fuels are a necessity for the future, but unfortunately my skills do not include chemical or mechanical engineering. I can however express my opinion stating my desire for those with such skills to come up with something.

Veterans for Peace, while asking for just that, peace, do not support insurgents in Iraq. I imagine that since they are veterans and they did fight in a war but believe this one is misguided that they would be quite offended at the ignorance presented here towards their cause and the lack of respect, absent here, that they obviously deserve, having spent some time experiencing the horrors of war while maintaing that if others are to be exposed to war that it be 100% absolutely necessary. Considering that many people including myself had reasonable doubt prior to entering Iraq, I think that going to war this time did not meet that not so unreasonable mark. Supporting peace is not the same thing as supporting insurgents and I'm tired of such arguments being spun into straw men.

And having money does not preclude one from pointing out the inequities present in the U.S. class system, be they an actor or not. Actors are entitled to their opinions as well, and untill people stop sticking cameras and microphones in their faces all the time, we must find it hard to complain when they say something we happen to disagree with. YOUR ideas presented above seem quite over the top, reactionary, and most of all, lacking a logical or argumentative basis. I wouldn't even use that crap in a lowly, repetitive, beating a dead horse, appeal to contradiction and emotion, George Bush speach.

  12. ryanjasondesch (anonymous) says…

BTW, giving explainations for why the insurgents are fighting us does not equal support. BTW, you missed the point, i.e. your sorry support for this thoughtless, disgusting war that was a lie from day one. Refer to my post 6 posts above this one.

  13. majic12 (anonymous) says…

The insurgents are doing just what I hope I would have the courage to do if this country was invaded. They are patriots, plain and simple. I hope we can get our troops home soon and safely.

  14. ryanjasondesch (anonymous) says…

Just like I said, supporting peace does not equate with supporting insurgents you stupid f**k. I guarantee you I'm brighter and much more importantly in this society much more successful and wealthy than you are (unless you have a couple cool million in the bank like me). Patriots have rarely been defined by their cowerdly acquiesence to the status quo than their fearless rebellion against. See Che Guevera, Thomas Paine, etc. Oh, wait, did you miss the point again, that last post seemed really lame. Maybe, just maybe there would not be any "insurgents" if we weren't an occupying country (maybe they feel something like the U.S. patriots against England?) if we hadn't of entered their country in the first place f***kf*ace. But, hey, if you got a problem, maybe we can step oustide. how do you like them apples!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I should join them, but that would just be ABSURD wouldn't it be?!? come on now
