Round & round
To the editor:
The new “left turn in front of a traffic circle” ordinance seems to validate the thought of some that the city commissioners, engineers and anyone else connected with the proliferation of roundabouts, traffic circles and other traffic-calming devices, have grown dizzy from driving in circles.
One must travel counterclockwise on a roundabout UNLESS the roundabout isn’t a roundabout but is, in fact, a traffic circle. On a traffic circle, one is now allowed to drive clockwise in order to make a left turn. To turn left on a roundabout, one must still proceed in a counterclockwise direction and exit the roundabout to the right when reaching the left exit … Right!
One thing seems assured with this new ordinance: There will be some head-on collisions between those traveling counterclockwise around whatever you want to call those circle intersections and those making a clockwise left turn.
