The Kansas State Troopers Assn. recently donated $500 to help a group complete construction of a ramp to teach horseback riding to wheelchair users.
"They were very generous. It definitely was a blessing," said Danae Johnson, board chair for Pathways Animal Assisted Therapy Inc.
Pathways is an organization dedicated to helping people through interaction with animals. In Northeast Kansas it operates at horse stables in Baldwin and Atchison.
It has programs for people with physical and cognitive disorders; social, emotional or behavioral issues; and at-risk students.
The ramp will give Pathways the means to easily hoist wheelchair users into riding position, and bring the operation into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Johnson said.
