Sponsors sought for Christmas parade

The Lawrence Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade Committee seeks sponsors for this year’s event.

The committee will play host to a reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Eldridge Hotel, 701 Mass.

The reception is free and open to anyone who has an interest in being a parade sponsor. Those who plan to attend the reception should make reservations no later than Wednesday by contacting Jennifer Attebery, of CornerBank, at 838-9400, or jennifer@cornerbanks.com.

The Lawrence Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade, which will begin at 11 a.m. Dec. 3, features only horse-drawn entries and riding groups in coordinated costumes. There were about 120 entries in the 2004 parade, pictured above.

Last year, more than 80 area businesses and families contributed to the event.

Committee members are Jim Adams, Jana Dobbs, Deborah Kurtz, Doug Dawson and Barbara Braa, all of CornerBank; Kendra Hatfield, of the Eldridge; Stan Zaremba, of Zarco 66; Dennis Lawson and Sonja Hart, of Frontier Farm Credit; Bob Schumm, of Buffalo Bob’s Smokehouse; Peter Steimle, of Sedona Staffing Services; and Phil Bradley, of the Kansas Licensed Beverage Assn.
