Free State, LHS to fete fall sports

Lawrence High and Free State High will showcase their autumn sports teams during preseason exhibitions tonight.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. for the Free State Jamboree at Firebird Field. The sophomore football team will open the event with a scrimmage at 6 p.m. Then the varsity football squad will scrimmage for 25 minutes, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Members of the girls tennis, gymnastics, volleyball, girls golf and boys soccer teams will be introduced from 6:35 to 7 p.m. Later, following a 15-minute band performance, the football team will scrimmage again from 7:15 to 7:40 p.m. During that scrimmage, the cross country team will stage a mile run on the track.

After the football team concludes its work, fans will be invited to a volleyball scrimmage in the school’s main gym.

The Lawrence High Jamboree will be at Haskell Stadium.

The LHS event will start at 6 p.m. with 50 minutes of boys soccer. Sophomore football is slated for 6:50 to 7:15 p.m. Then the band will perform at 7:15 p.m. with a football scrimmage slated to start at 7:30 p.m.

Cross country will take over from 8 to 8:15 p.m., then football will resume and continue until 8:50 p.m. At various times during the action on the field, coach and player introductions will be made on the stadium track.

Fall competition for both schools will begin next week.
