Douglas County commissioners on Monday accepted a proposal to regulate rural growth from the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission.

But the commissioners didn't approve it.

"I'm not sure that there's much more to say about this plan," Commission Chairman Charles Jones said of the planning commission's proposal.

Commissioners previously objected to the rural subdivision regulations proposed by the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission, because they were complicated and called for too many changes to current regulations.

Because of their concerns, the county commissioners in June began working on their own proposal for rural growth and subdivision regulations with the assistance of the planning staff.

County commissioners intend to have a draft of their proposal for rural subdivision regulations in by early September.
