A helmet may have saved the life of a Lawrence motorcyclist injured early Sunday when a car pulled out in front of him on West Sixth Street.
Family members of Brian J. Thornton, Jr., 31, said he was in good condition Monday and was recuperating from the wreck, which happened about 2:41 a.m. Sunday near the entrance to Tuckaway Apartments, 2600 W. Sixth St.
According to a police report, Thornton was driving west on Sixth Street when a Dodge Neon driven by Richard Sherman, 51, Lawrence, pulled out of the apartment complex in front of him.
Thornton was flown by helicopter to the University of Kansas Hospital. The accident remains under investigation, and no citations have been issued.
Lawrence Police spokesman Sgt. Dan Ward said there were no indications alcohol was a factor in the wreck.

I ride a motorcycle, on 6th street yesterday, within 5 blocks of each other, two college aged girls looked right at me, then pulled out in front of me. I had to hit the brakes hard and swerve into the other lane to avoid them. I have people pull out into my lane about three times a month. I am not speeding, I have lights on my bike. Some people get pissy when I honk my horn at them as they are trying to kill me.
