Body found near mobile home park

Lawrence Police detectives were investigating a death Monday evening after a body was discovered in a wooded area at the southeast corner of Gaslight Village mobile home park.

Police Sgt. Catherine Born said at 9:30 p.m. Monday that detectives continued to investigate the identity of the individual found at 1900 W. 31st St., as well as the possible cause of death and whether any suspicious activity was involved.

Born said police may not have a positive identification of the body until today.

“It’s all under investigation. We might have more information in the morning,” she said.

In the rain Monday, officers tried to rehash events and interviewed many children and other apparent residents in the park while several groups of neighbors watched.

Emergency dispatchers relayed a call to police about the death about 5:45 p.m. Monday. Detectives had cleared the scene by 9 p.m. Monday, Born said.
