Japanese vet student visits Lawrence office

Chie Suzuki, a third-year veterinary student from Nihon University, observes an office visit at Kraft's Lawrence Veterinary Hospital with nurse technician Sarah Geisler.

A Lawrence veterinarian’s office helped groom the education of a college student from Japan.

Dr. James Kraft, a Lawrence veterinarian, accommodated a visit earlier this month from Chie Suzuki, a third-year veterinary student from Nihon University in Kanagawa, Japan.

Suzuki observed a surgery (spaying a female dog), a dental procedure (scaling teeth and removing one tooth from a dog) and several routine office visits at Kraft’s Lawrence Veterinary Hospital.

Suzuki also managed to communicate with hospital staffers and pet owners in English, a language Suzuki had been studying. She took a required course in the language during her first year on campus.

Suzuki’s visit came after she visited the veterinary sciences program at Kansas State University in Manhattan.
