Family’s $200,000 gift to benefit Beach Center
A $200,000 gift from the Borchardt family will create the first scholarship fund to assist graduate students affiliated with the Beach Center on Disability at Kansas University.
The gift came from seven members of the family – Julie and Scott Borchardt, of Walpole, Mass.; Kelly and Phil Elrod, of Richland, Mich.; Paul Borchardt, of Lawrence; and Ron and Pamela Borchardt, also of Lawrence.
Interest from the fund will assist graduate students affiliated with the Beach Center and who are enrolled in the department of special education.
The family made the gift, in part, because Julie and Scott Borchardt have a daughter with Down’s syndrome.
The family has strong ties to Kansas University. Ron Borchardt is a KU graduate who is a professor of pharmaceutical chemistry.
Julie and Scott Borchardt, Kelly Elrod and Paul Borchardt all are Kansas University alumni.
