Vandals target frat house again

A fraternity house that recently changed hands has again been the target of vandalism.

Between 2 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Sunday, someone damaged the $4,300 “TKE” sign outside the Tau Kappa Epsilon house, 1111 W. 11th St., apparently using a golf club that police found on the ground nearby.

The home has been the target of repeated vandalism since last spring, when the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity was kicked off campus after a 16-keg party that Kansas University leaders called a blatant violation of alcohol rules.

In early June, Tau Kappa Epsilon leaders preparing to move in found the inside of the home had been trashed to the tune of about $50,000 in the days leading up to the end of Phi Kappa Theta’s lease.

Also, on June 2 someone knocked a new “TKE” sign off its stone supports and painted the Greek letters for “Phi Kappa Theta” on the sign, according to a police report.
