Fringe feminists

To the editor:

In regard to the law of reporting abortions on girls younger than 14, the head of an abortion rights lobby group is continuing the disinformation campaign put out by fringe feminists. Abortion providers make a tremendous amount of money providing abortions. There is a disincentive to protect young girls. Laws need to be in place to make sure that they are protected. Abortion hurts women of all ages. It has been linked to increased risk of breast cancer, increased depression and self-harm as well as increased risk of pre-term birth and placenta previa.

The Roe v. Wade decision itself has been pointed out by constitutional scholars to have no basis in constitutional text or history. Instead, it is a blatant act of policy-making by the branch of government that is not supposed to make policy. Congress and the president are supposed to lead the nation on policy questions.

With the nomination of Judge Roberts to the Supreme Court, many women’s groups are expressing concern that the Supreme Court will no longer protect their ability to have an abortion. However, they will not say how far Roe has gone with its companion case of Doe v. Bolton. These two cases legalized abortion for any reason throughout all nine months of pregnancy. This is a position that pollsters show most people do not support.
