Two Navy officers are ready to take on the Lawrence real estate market, one do-it-yourself listing at a time.
Lawrence FSBO LLC, established by Todd Chipman and Dennis Turner, is designed to help people list their homes as "for sale by owner."
Such sales, known as FSBOs, can help property owners cut transaction costs. Otherwise, sellers typically pay Realtors 6 percent of the final sale price to handle marketing and other details.
Lawrence FSBO, Chipman said, charges flat fees for its services. Among them: listing a home on the company's Web site, www.lawrencefsbo.com; and printing "for sale" signs and flyers.
The officers are pursuing master's degrees in business administration at Kansas University.
They plan to conduct a 90-minute seminar about FSBOs at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive. There is a fee. For more information, click on the company's Web site.
